Ellie

I have an 8 month old. Say what?! Yes. An 8 month old.  8 months ago Ellie was just a little ball of joy inside my belly. I don't know how time flies that fast.

Here are just a few things that are new with Ellie.

+ She is a professional roller now. The instant you put her to sleep on her back she flips over. And, if she wants something out of her reach she will sometimes roll over to get it (and sometimes just stare at it and wish it would come to her). This includes the bathtub and my arms.  It's pretty amazing. 

+ We've got one tooth out and slowly creepin' its way into the world. Still waiting for number 2, they tend to come in pairs people say. I'm sure it'll be here tomorrow. And then the next day she'll be going to college.  Sigh...

+ My her song of choice at bedtime is either Amazing Grace or You Are My Sunshine.  That's more-so our choice of songs. Gotta keep things real on here. I'm sure Ellie could care less if we sang "Poker Face" as a slow ballad...as long as she's being sung to.  Note: We may have done that with various pop songs for our own amusement.

+ The past month she has become pretty mom-clingy.  She's even started to reach out for me.  It's cute and sad all at the same time.  Especially when I just want to put her down to get things done.  If only all moms had four arms.  Thank goodness for our Boba carrier!

 

+ No crawls yet. She can do full 360s in the crib and on the floor. I've even seen her get on her knees in the crib. Any day...


+ She eats a lot more solid foods now. It makes me more weary of the days when we'll be weaning from breastfeeding. Which, by the way, is such a beautiful and relaxing thing when you aren't worrying about life's stresses.

Miscellany Monday

+ I am still waiting for the Lego Movie to come out. I'm stoked. And not ashamed.

+ The new Nickel Creek album is AMAZING. Seriously. These two songs are my favorite so far, but really, the entire album is awesome.

+ Clogged milk ducts are as annoying as they sound. I thought I'd make it through breastfeeding without any, but it caught me. Breasts are annoying sometimes...

+ I have been wanting to go on a hike for quite some time and we finally did! Actually, it was our first hike as a family.  Crazy, I know.  I don't know how it happened, but most of the time we just went on walks.  No actual hikes.  This time we hiked up Oyster Dome and it was beautiful!  Upper 60's, sunshine, and blue skies.  Couldn't have asked for anything more.   Well, except for the screaming baby through part of the hike, but we're experts at getting through those times now.

+ The lack of hikes is partially due to the fact that my husband is a bread-making, beer-brewing machine.  Making bread every weekend.  Making beer almost once a month.  It's quite the process!  Not that I blame him or anything...

+ I've also been in a serious blogging rut.  Yes, I said that last time.  But, I keep writing all of these drafts and end up not finishing them.  I have no idea why.  This is probably why I have not blogged in forever.  Trying to fix that...

Miscellany Monday

+ This always happens.  I get in a blogging rut and it hurts.  I miss the blog world!  I miss connecting with people.  I think I have written about 20 drafts since my last blog post and each one has never been finished.  Can I blame my daughter?  Is that selfish of me?


+ It is spring break!  I have been waiting for this since I first started in January.  This job is keeping me crazy busy, and I only work part time!  Within the next month I have to plan an entire K-8 music concert and not pull my hair out.  I'm just hoping that Ellie doesn't decide to start teething during that time.


+ Speaking of Ellie, she doesn't sleep through the night yet.  I don't think I've had more than 4-5 hours straight of sleep since I was about 3-4 months pregnant.  That's more than a year ago.  Yikes...


+ My best friend is getting married this summer.  In Japan.  We had originally decided that we just couldn't afford it with trying to massively save up/pay off our debts, but we had some things come up that have allowed me to go!  I'm BEYOND excited to go to Japan.  Tokyo, of all places!  The only downside?  I have to go alone.  A 16+ hour plane ride... to a huge foreign city... alone.  Is it okay if I'm incredibly nervous?


+ While in Japan, Ellie is going to stay home with Nick.  I wanted to bring her along, but I think with the crazy time change and me being on my own, it's probably not a good idea.  Plus, it'll be great daddy-daughter bonding time!  And really great mommy-alone time.

+ Nick is becoming quite the brewer and bread-maker around here.  He started his own sourdough starter, has made many loaves of bread, and we even made a yummy pizza crust with it.

Ellie doesn't mind it all either.  Even the beer.
