Documentaries 2

I shared with you awhile ago my list of awesome documentaries.  Well, I'm here again to tell you about some more documentaries that I think are top-of-the-line, awesome sauce.  I hope you check at least a couple of them out!

Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead
Another awesome food documentary.  It's mostly about juicing, but it is amazing the things you learn from it.   This man, Joe, is suffering from being overweight and an autoimmune disease.  He decides to fight these problems with, wait for it... his own body!  He vows to go on a 60-day FRESH juice fast (only fruit and vegetable juices) while traveling around the country.  It will teach you a lot about the power of your own body and good food.  It also inspired Nick and I to do a fruit and veggie fast.

Forks over Knives
And yet one more enlightening food documentary.  This one focuses more on the diseases that afflict us and studies that have shown that you (we) can prevent or even reverse them by focusing on our diet.  Nick and I are not vegans, but we do try much harder to eat way more organic vegetables/fruits than meat.  We also try to avoid eating processed food, although I must admit we occasionally splurge.

Bag It
I admit, I wasn't too excited about this documentary, but my grandma said I needed to watch it so I did.  Let me just say that I watched this last week and it scared the poop out of me.  Don't watch it while pregnant.  It's all about plastics.  Where those single-use plastic containers/objects end up.  Where they end up NOT degrading.  And what is in a bunch of baby items.  I HIGHLY recommend this film because it will make you seriously think about what/how you buy.  Also, the guy who did the documentary is extremely dorky... it makes the whole film a little more fun.

Intangible Asset No. 82
If you like music, especially worldly music, you should like this film.  It's not too well-known, but it should be.  It follows a jazz drummer, Simon Barker, who travels to South Korea in order to study with a shaman, Kim Seok-Chul.   I know not everyone will find this interesting, but it is pretty dang awesome to see what some of these Korean musicians do and how Simon incorporates it into his playing.  Nick loves this documentary.

Waiting for Superman
As a teacher, this documentary hits home pretty hard.  It's all about the educational system set up in our country.  Maybe not a good thing.  It's incredibly informative, in a very good way, and will get you thinking about how messed up the educational system is in our country and why.  It may also make you think about your future kids' education as well.

180* South
This is one of Nick's favorite documentaries.  It's about a guy who sets out on an adventure from California to Patagonia, Chile.  He takes a sailboat down there and has quite a bit of mini-adventures along the way.  You get to see the beauty of nature un-tampered with and WHY it's beautiful.  It's also pretty awesome to see how amazing Patagonia is (along with some fun surfing shots).  If you like the outdoors, watch it.  It's pretty fun!

Be prepared to see another one of these soon.  We just watch too many documentaries.  What can I say?  We like to know things.  Ha.

Oh yes, I'm still alive.

I have survived!

Okay.  This doesn't really apply, but it's still hilarious and true.

I made it through the crazy and somewhat stressful weekend with 21 high schoolers.  18 boys and 3 girls.  I chaperoned the girls and they were all awesome and amazing.  The boys, however, were pretty big whiners.  Not all of them, mind you.  A few of them were actually really cool and smart boys.  A couple others were just irresponsible and maybe had too much testosterone.  Whatever.

The festival itself (Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival) was pretty awesome.  I'm surprised I never went before in college.  We went to some pretty enlightening clinics, saw some amazing concerts, and listened to/learned from world class musicians.

The two nighttime concerts featured the Jeff Hamilton Trio, a group featuring a few awesome violinists (Regina Carter, Sara Caswell, and Aaron Weinstein) and the all-star rhythm section, Take 6, AND Maceo Parker (one of my favorite saxophonists who is from James Brown's band).

Minus the fact that we were sleeping on people's couches, got very little sleep, and had to deal with whining boys, it was a pretty successful trip.  I had no idea boys could whine that much, but apparently when you drive in ONE CIRCLE trying to find the place you are going to go, it happens.  Although we did drive in a few circles throughout the entire trip, but our excuse (the teachers') was YOLO.  It really irritated the kids.  It was awesome.  I think they won't say that as much anymore.

Well, I don't have any pictures because my camera died the FIRST day.  So, you can live with a new Lonely Island song that takes YOLO to the next level.  There is no bad language so blast this anywhere.  You'll love it.

PS.  A shirt that I have had a mustard stain on the front so I put it next to the washing machine because I was going to wash it/unstain it when we got back.  I cam back yesterday, started doing laundry and could NOT find the mustard stain.  IT DISAPPEARED!  I have no idea how it happened.  I keep coming back to it to stare it at it some more.  I even went through the trouble of looking at it in different lights.  It's weirding me out.

Over the mountains and through the desert

I agreed to go with my husband and help chaperone the high school jazz band that he works with this weekend.

Why did I say yes to it again?

I don't know either.

I do know that we're going to a pretty awesome jazz festival - Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival - in Idaho. I also know that one of my favorite sax players will be there.  Maceo Parker.  And we have free tickets to go see him.  You should know that he was in James Brown's band.

But, we have to sleep at different houses and make sure the kids don't do anything stupid.  It's only about 20 or so kids and 3 adults, so it shouldn't be too difficult of a task.

Anyways, that's what I'm doing today until Sunday.  If you don't hear from me before then, well, you know why.  Hopefully my pregnant hormones don't embarrass me.

Especially with this face.

Baby Tuesday.

My body is destroyed.  Well, actually, it's better than it was yesterday and even better than Sunday.

Why?  Well, remember quite awhile ago when I mentioned that I was doing a half-marathon?  Ah yes.  THAT half-marathon.   Well, that was Sunday morning.

I was originally planning on running at least half of it, but I somehow sort of forgot my training a bit and slacked off.  I had a good reason.  I mean, my body was building a baby, come on!

I was also told by two different OB's/doctors that I shouldn't try running it.  Walking it would be fine, but running might put too much pressure on my body.  Especially since I have never ran that far before.  It actually worked out well because my mom was going to walk the whole thing.  So I had a buddy!

My mom and I walked the whole thing while Nick and my aunt ran the whole thing - they are beasts! So proud of them.  I should also mention that I was a little extra lazy the week or so before the race so I almost went into the whole thing cold-turkey.  Or at least it really felt like it.

Long story short, mom and I made the 13.1 miles in about 3 hours and 40 minutes.  I limped the last 4 miles because all of my leg muscles were throbbing in serious pain, but I didn't give up.  So THAT'S why my body is destroyed and I'm still having to waddle a bit to move around the house and such.  I did stretch a lot AND take a hot epsom salt bath, so that was nice.  I think tomorrow I'll have very little sores.  Fingers crossed!

Continuing on, I think I'm going to dedicate Tuesdays to mostly baby things.  That way you can come back on Tuesdays if you just want to hear about the babe.

Today's topic:  pregnancy/baby thoughts

-- My first pair of pants don't fit.  How awful is this?  ESPECIALLY when I don't even look pregnant. Sometimes I actually don't even feel pregnant.  Except when I have to eat just about every hour and a half and pee every hour.  I am excited, though, because my mom bought me some belly bands to wear with my pants.  Now I can walk around with un-buttoned pants ALL DAY.   Yes!  Thanks mom :)

-- I had my first hormonal moment.  I got extremely emotional (tears and all) about some grocery shopping thing that Nick was doing.  Poor guy was pretty confused when I apologized about 5 minutes later.  I'm trying not to let that crazy side out too much, but sometimes it's a little hard.  I'm sorry Nick.

-- I'm dying to find out if we're having a boy or girl.  I just want to buy things and make cute decorations for our baby, but how am I supposed to do that when we don't know what we're having?!  And, I have to wait until about mid-April until we find out.  Patience is a virtue, I know...

-- I bought my first cloth diaper and sleeper the other day.  Oh yes, we're cloth diapering.  I'm excited.  It's going to save us SO much money and our baby is going to look incredibly cute.

-- It still feels surreal to be becoming a parent.  Having to start thinking about all these mommy things just seem too crazy!

Our history

I've touched on our relationship history here and there, but it's high time for a full-on POST about the relationship that got us all the way from: first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage.  Plus, it's Valentine's Day.

First things first, we originally met in marching band.  That was our first interaction anyways.  We both played in the saxophone section.  Oh yes, you can start calling us music nerds/band geeks/whatever.  We are so that.

Yup.  Me doing the "WOW" face.  I look so cute and dorky, right?
Nick asked me why my saxophone was blue in spots and I said, "Long story short, I spray painted it in high school, hated it, then painted it gold on top and now the paint is starting to chip off".

I really wish I had a picture of that saxophone.  It was awful.  At least I still had my other very nice one!

After that it was the occasional "hi" and head nod in the halls and during band rehearsals.  Oh, and don't forget my awkward "hey, I saw you rock climbing last night while I was working out.  Cool." moment.  It's a good thing he was chill and didn't catch me being a total weirdo.

After that we started talking a little more and our first Facebook convo, oh yes I have that, involved threatening to poison each other so we could win a spot in the wind ensemble.  I don't think either one of us won that spot.  Can't really remember..

I'm posting it small because it is pretty big and silly.  You can easily click the picture itself to read what we said.  You don't have to read it, but it's here for my sake because it's just silly, awkward, and cute.

Continuing on, this leads to us hanging out (and skipping one class for coffee) a little more and chatting quite frequently on Facebook when he was at work (I lived for those Saturday mornings when we could chat online).

Then, one day we went to a local park.  We played on the playground (ah yes, we're still kids), made our own sailboats out of wood and sticks and raced them down the creek, and then played some frisbee.  A very cute "date" if I do say so myself.  On our way back to our cars Nick stopped me and just asked "Hey, would you like to be my girlfriend?"  I should also mention that he didn't have any previous relationships before me, so it makes this whole thing 10 times cuter in my opinion.

I just smiled and said, "sure!"   Then we did an awkward first-time-ever hug and drove off to our own apartments.  I got home and screamed at my roommate who proceeded to ask, "Who?  Really?  I didn't know you liked him.  That's awesome!"  And we both screamed and danced a little in the living room.  True story.

After that we kept hanging out, dating, doing cute couple things until we realized we shouldn't/couldn't be affording all the trips/dates in Seattle, dinners out, etc.  We seriously nailed that whole spend money on each other thing at the beginning.

It should also be mentioned that one of our very first dates involved Nick "testing" me.  He took me out to go stargazing.  But, the catch, was that we had to hike a pretty steep hill, at NIGHT, in order to do it.  Well, I conquered that hill like it was nobody's business.  Now, I think I'd probably whine a lot before we actually did it, but then I was fearless and in desperate need to try and impress him.  It worked.

After a year and a half of dating we got engaged.  We talked about getting married before we got engaged and we actually, surprisingly, talked about a
lot of very serious things like: finances and money, babies, opinions on serious topics/debates, etc.  All the typical pre-marriage things, ya know.

Anyways, we were engaged on August 29, 2010 and we were married on July 3, 2011.

Life has been an adventure ever since, but I wouldn't change it.  I know everyone says that, but it is incredibly true.. minus a few disagreements here and there over silly things.

Here's to continuing on in the adventure by adding a new member!

The PNW.

Well, if you didn't already know it, you know that I live in the Pacific Northwest.  Ah, yes.  The PNW.

And you know what else?  I am a true PNW-er.  Want to know how I know, besides actually living in it?  Well, let's look at a few facts.

1.  I don't honk my horn.   When someone cuts me off or does something stupid on the road I somehow forget I have a horn.  I do, however, sometimes wish I would've honked it after the fact.  Nick, who grew up on the east side of the state, is usually there to honk the horn for me.  What would I do without him..

2.  I don't own an air conditioner nor do I ever plan on it.  It gets hot occasionally around here, but it also gets cool enough at night that you can just open the windows to cool the house down.

3.  I drive a Subaru Outback.  Ah yes.  The stereotypical western Washington vehicle of choice.  If you lived in Bellingham you'd see at least 30 cars that look EXACTLY like mine (same color, same year, etc.).

4.  I shop at REI.
This could mostly be because Nick works there, but before he did it was our go-to store for our outdoor things.  Especially garage sale time.  What other kind of gigantic used sale is going to allow you to find every kind of recreational equipment?   Although, I wish I could shop there more, but sometimes it just costs too much when things aren't on sale.

Yes, we're pretty much wearing the same jacket.  His is just a little nicer than mine, but it's still the same brand.

5.  My husband wears socks and sandals.  He says it's because he has bad circulation in his hands/feet (I believe it), but I can still make fun of him, right?

http://www.lolriot.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Funny-eCard-Your-socks-look-great-with-your-sandals-said-no-one-ever.jpg

6.  I enjoy camping and hiking.  Okay, I know not all people around here like camping, but I think the fact that we both like it means that we're living in a good place.  Don't you agree?

So, would you fit in the PNW?  Or am I missing something?

ABC - it's easy as 123

I've seen this on so many blogs and, well, it's hard to pass up an opportunity for an easy blog post and more stuff about me.  I hope you enjoy learning something new!  Maybe.   You may already know all of this, but oh well.  Enjoy it either way.

A. Age: 24.  Almost 25, yuck!

B. Bed size: Queen - a king would just be too big.  I don't want to get lost in the mattress.  Although we did sleep in one on our honeymoon and the space was kind of nice... so maybe someday in the future.

C. Chore you hate: It's a tie between the dishes and the bathroom.  Living with a man means the bathroom gets gross FAST.  Nobody warns you about that.  And the bathtub is my least favorite part.  But, sometimes our dishes get stacked up and I hate doing dishes when there's a million to do.

D. Dogs: None. nOnce we live somewhere that allows us to own one (or five) I am totally getting one.  For now I'll just survive with a cuddler at work.

E. Essential start to your day: Breakfast.  I have to eat in the morning or I'm grumpy for quite some time.  So is my stomach.

F. Favorite color: It's probably brown or green at this point in time.  I think I have a small obsession with natural colors right now.  I don't know why actually.  Oh well :)

G. Gold or Silver: Silver.  I'm not a gold person.

H. Height: 5' 6.  I run an average height, but I am the shortest in my immediate family.  Sigh.  Even my in-laws are (and are growing up to be) taller than me.

I. Instruments you play: I play saxophone mostly, but I know how to play (though not very well) the piano, flute, trumpet, and a little guitar.

J. Job Title: Nanny.  Pretty self-explanatory.  If you need clarification, though, I can probably provide it.

K. Kids: None at the moment, but we do have one in the oven ;)

L. Live:  Bellingham, WA.  Ahh, yes.

M. Married: Oh yes.  To this man.

N. Nicknames: Most of my high school friends call/called me Ali.  Now a few people call me that, but most just call me Alison.  I have been known to be called Al and Son by a few uncles/male friends.  It must be a man thing.

O. Overnight hospital stays:  None that I know of.  Maybe when I was born.  Yeah.  Definitely then.

P. Pet peeve: Gum smacking, doing something else while I'm talking, massively gross PDA, bad drivers, angry shoppers, and probably a lot more than that.

Q. Quote: "Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you." - Dr. Suess

R. Righty or Lefty:  Righty.  Yup.

S. Siblings: Two.  Both younger and both taller.  If you look at the picture you will see how much my brother is slouching.  And my sister is a bit, too.

T. Time you wake up: Well, that depends on the day.  My work days currently involve me waking up at about 4.  On days off or weekends, it's usually around 8:30-9:30.  A good wake up time.
U. University attended: Central Washington University.  Yup.

V. Vegetables you dislike: Mostly beets.  Yuck.  I don't really like them.  That and celery.

W. What makes you run late:  Usually hitting my snooze button too many times or traffic.   Usually hitting snooze way too much.

X. X-rays you've had: Just on my teeth.  Once for my braces and once for my wisdom teeth.  Fun stuff!

Y. Yummy food: Strawberries.  I could eat them ALL the time.  Those and fresh blueberries.  Yum!

Z. Zoo animal favorite: There are too many awesome animals.  Lemurs and otters and the coolest, though.  I wish I could have one of each, please!

Woodland Park Zoo otters.  One of my favorites :)

The Office openings

One of my all-time favorite TV shows is The Office.  I love it.

It's hilarious, snarky, witty, inappropriate at times, dramatic at times, and just... great.

One of the best parts of the show is the opening scene.  A lot of the magic and, in my opinion, some of my favorite moments of the show, happen in that 1-5 minute window.

These are just a few of my favorites.  There are SO many openings (or cold opens as they call it) that I couldn't just put all of them and I know there are a few that I'm missing that are equally just as good.  Share them with me if I'm missing an extremely memorable one!

1.  One of the greatest moments, and if you're a fan I'm sure you'll agree, is when Jim impersonates Dwight.

2.  Who can forget when Parkour became "in"?  Well, no one makes fun of it better than Andy, Michael, and Dwight.   Hardcore parkour!

I miss Michael Scott.
via

3.  I LOVE the fire drill scene.  It's probably one of the longest scenes they did, but it is amazing.  Dwight causes a fire to teach a lesson and in turn, the whole office goes into every-man-for-himself panic mode.  And even better, Kevin breaks the vending machine to get all the food out of it and Angela throws her cat into the ceiling.  The whole scene is pure genius.

via

4.  I love Jim and Dwight pranks  (who doesn't?).  Another great prank Jim did was to send faxes from "future Dwight" to present day Dwight.  "Dwight" warns himself to not drink the coffee because it gets poisoned.  It's just another hilarious prank.
via

5.  This one is on here because it is hilariously sad.  It is the opening where Kevin brings his famous chili, that he worked on all night, to the office to share with everyone.  He ends up spilling it all on the carpet and tries to save it.  It's one of those scenes where you aren't sure whether to laugh or cry.

6.  And, my all-time favorite Office opening is when they are in a meeting waiting for the DVD logo to hit the corner of the TV.  Just watch it for yourself and tell me you didn't laugh your butt off.

The Office - Bouncing DVD Cube

What are your favorites?

Hey Bay-bay!

Get my pop culture reference?  Ah... rap music.

Whew!  You have no idea how hard it was keeping that secret a secret for the past month.  Yes.  A MONTH!  There were so many times that I wanted to mention something about being pregnant in one of my random posts or comments to other people, but I knew that it'd be better to wait.

Plus, it makes it more fun to reveal the longer you hold it in.

I'm sure some of you are wondering about how everything is doing inside my body and I assure you, I'll be updating you all until you know more about me than I know.  Not really, but you get the idea.

I hope you understand that just because I'm having a baby doesn't make this a baby blog.  Of course, you'll all get your fill on baby bump statuses, pregnancy highs and lows, and oh-so-much more.  But, I'll still be doing things for me.  Not just for our baby.  And if I get too carried away with 309234 baby posts a week, please let me know and tell me to slow it down.  Do it for my sake and for yours before it gets bad.

Anyways, onto the oh-so-wonderful pregnancy/baby bump update.

Currently...

...I'm about 10 weeks along.  We could have waited longer to tell y'all, but it's such a hard secret to hold in.  And plus, most of our families already knew weeks ago.

...I have no morning sickness.  All of you pregnant/post-pregnant women can hate me.  I know others do.  I have been blessed with a mother who didn't have it, and luckily with this pregnancy (although it could easily change in our next pregnancy) I don't have any of that wonderful nastiness either.

You think I'm on the left, huh?  Well, I'm on the right.  Short hair and all: circa 2005.

...I DO have heartburn, fatigue, and headaches.  See?  I didn't get off too easily.  I've been pretty tired (with/without working 12 hours a day) and I have a nice little heartburn that likes to grace me with its presence every now and then.  And the headaches?  Well, they aren't frequent, but occasionally they like to let me know they're there.  This weekend I had a headache the ENTIRE TIME.   It may have been minor, but it was still a headache.  Figures I'd get them, since I had them at least once every other week pre-pregnancy.  Oh well.  Tylenol and Tums can just sleep next to me.  All day, every day.

...I eat.  All. the. time.  Or at least it feels like that.  It struck me a few weeks ago, but I snack a lot and can no longer eat "normal-sized" meals.  I have to eat at least half of what I would've usually eaten, but then I'm just hungry again an hour or so later.  Hence the need for lots of fruit/vegetable snacks around the house and granola bars.  My saviors in not gaining a million pounds.

...I feel and look fat.  Ok, I know this just seems silly, but I was never "flat-bellied" before pregnancy and now that that area is growing little by little, it makes me just feel fat.  That's mostly because people look at your stomach when you tell them you're pregnant or they ask how you're feeling lately and you don't even look pregnant.  It's such a sad thing.  Especially when your pants are slowly starting to lose their nice fit and your bra is starting to become too tight.  Sigh.  Pregnancy is beautiful.

...Nick is excited.  This may seem like a weird update, but a lot of people asked me when I told them if he was excited.  Well, I'd hope he was excited!  I wouldn't have married him if he didn't want to have children with me.  I do know why people ask and not all of them were out of line or offensive.  It just seems like a silly thing.  Maybe it's my hormones.  Whatever.  Anyways, he has resorted to a few chanting sessions with my belly.  Yup.  You read that right.  Here's what it sounded like:

Maybe not exactly, but something very similar.

...My breasts hurt.  A lot.   It's probably TMI, but that was how I knew I was pregnant and they have been extremely sore for the past month with no sign of stopping.  It wouldn't normally be too bad, but when you have a 4-year-old climbing over you all day, accidental boob squishing/elbowing happens a lot more than you want it to.

Firsts

It's the first of February (I can't even believe January went this fast).  In honor of this special occasion I've decided to grace you all with a fun little survey.  A look into most of my firsts.

Also, you should know that my iPod camera finally died.  That means my Instagram is very sad and lonely.  In case you were wondering!

First thing you do when you wake up in the morning:
When I officially wake up?  Well, usually pee and the brush my teeth.  While I'm waking up I usually hit the snooze button at least 5 times.  It's a habit that I haven't been able to break since I started in high school.  Oh well.  It just means that I get to set my alarm clock at least 30 minutes ahead of my actual wake up time.  It used to drive Nick crazy.  He's used to it now..

http://static.someecards.com/someecards/usercards/1343796775718_61503.png
via

First thing you reach for when you open the fridge:
Usually almond milk to go in my cereal.  If I'm not having cereal then it's homemade jam for my toast or a previously made smoothie.  The good breakfast stuff!

First thing you do when you get to the gym:
Good question.   It's been awhile, but I guess I'd usually go to the locker room and put my stuff in a locker, use the bathroom, then probably start on the treadmill.  It honestly depends on what I want to accomplish when I'm there.  And plus, it's been awhile.

First thing you do when you get home from work:
Throw my purse down and kiss my husband (if he's home) or relax on the comfy chair a bit while reading a million blogs at once.  It's such a hard thing to do.
via

First car:
'95 Honda Accord.  What a fun car that was.  We could drive 30 minutes and the windows still wouldn't defrost.  Such scary driving there was, but it served my high school years and then some very well.

First accident:
That would be when I was four years old.  I don't think I've talked about it before and if I have, I'm sorry.  But, it was a rollover accident that happened when some jerk was speeding like crazy on the freeway (found out later he was on the run) and hit the back end of my uncle's car.  I, somehow, flew out the window when the car was rolling over and my dad and uncle were in the front.   While this whole thing happened, my mom was behind us a ways and saw it happen.  I still can't imagine what she felt.

I, obviously, survived the accident just fine and have a gnarly scar on my wrist to prove it.  It's where the glass from the car was left in my wrist and I had to get stitches.  It's still there from when I was four.

I actually forget that it's there most of the time, but it's a reminder of how amazing God truly is.  He sent a guardian angel to be with us that day.  My dad and uncle were also fine.  My uncle suffered a broken nose and my dad didn't have any major problems (as far as I know)

It's also crazy to know that when the accident happened there was an off-duty policeman, off-duty paramedic, and a few others that I can't remember at this time.  I don't remember anything from then, but an occasional memory, I think, of a lady using a washcloth to clean up my wrist.

First thing you wanted to be when you grew up:
I think a librarian.  I'm not totally sure why, but I remember really wanting to be a librarian so I could read books all the time.  It'd still be a cool job.

First choice beverage:
Water all the way!  Or a really good fresh smoothie/fruit juice.  That'd be nice.

First choice breakfast:
If I had to pick ANYTHING for breakfast, it'd definitely be eggs and hash-browns.  I don't like to eat eggs all the time, but for some reason fried eggs mixed with homemade hash-browns are extremely delicious.  That or waffles with fresh strawberries and whipped cream.  YUM!

If it's a normal work morning, then I like my good cereal.  Usually frosted mini wheats (or whatever off-brand we have).

First choice dessert:
Oh man.  This is a really hard one.  I love my TJ's pomegranite-blueberry sorbet.  But, I also enjoy a good piece of grandma's banana cream pie or homemade ice cream.   Pretty much anything sweet that isn't too rich.  That's what I'll have.

First song that comes to mind:
Rainbow Connection by Kermit the Frog.  This is because I'm currently watching the old Muppet Movie.  SO GOOD.  I forgot how awesome the Muppets are.

First major purchase:
Well, I guess that would be when I turned 16 because I paid for half of my car.  After that, it'd be college textbooks.  Hah.  Yuck.

First job:
Working in the cannery when I was 14.  Picking out the bad berries, de-clumping frozen berries, making boxes at record speeds (and having the cardboard cuts to prove it).  Fun stuff.

Frist time you flew on a plane:
The first time that I remember flying in a plane was when I was 6 and we went to Mazatlan, Mexico with my entire family.  It was awesome.  I wish I had a cute picture to show you all!
