We can work it out.

Get it?!  Work it out?  Work out?  Ha!  Anyways...

First off, Malo at Life Feels Good in Portbail Beach has let me be one of her sponsors for this month.  She is awesome and I've been following her since I first started this blog and vice versa!  I'm giving away a nice little Starbucks gift card to those of you who want one.  It's not much, but it'll definitely buy you a nice pumpkin something coffee ;)

It has been a week of training so far and I'm still alive!

I'm not going to sugarcoat it and say that it was incredibly easy because honestly, there were some days when I was like "meh, it's pretty cloudy and will probably rain soon.  I should just do an indoor workout instead."  BUT, I kicked my own butt and made myself go out and run (and bike)

I haven't had any major major issues because it's only been a week, but I have been learning about myself as an exerciser and runner.

Running is super mental.  If I go for a run and I'm in a really bad mood, I tend to not be able to run as long or notice little pains that go on.  It's awful.

Yeah motivational quotes!

Audio/company makes everything so much better.  I love running with someone else or some good to listen to.  It makes the time fly by SO much faster.  If I can't run with somebody (usually Nick), then I turn on my workout playlist and get lost in the music.  Yesterday I tried listening to an audiobook.  It worked pretty well because it was a good book with a really good audio to go along with it (Life, The Universe, and Everything by Douglas Adams).
Do you have tried any audiobooks or have any good music suggestions?

To gym or not to gym.  Living out here in the Pacific Northwest means that we've got some serious rain in fall/winter.  I've been lucky so far with the weather, but once it starts pouring on my training days I'm either going to have to suck it up and run or start a gym membership or something.  Nick and I are thinking about starting a Y membership.  Then we can get access to a swimming pool and a gym.  It would require running on a treadmill, though which isn't one of my favorite things to do.

Funny Confession Ecard: I'm going to the gym so I can tell you I'm going to the gym.

Do you run/walk/exercise in the rain/cold?

  1. I have a gym memebership at the Y for the rainy or cold days. Its not as bad as you think. If its only one day I will do something like a stair climber or take a cycling class which still works cardioa but is much more entertaining than the treadmill. My YMCA also has an indoor track which is nice!

  2. I personally HATE running on the treadmill and I find that in the winter months I let my running fall to the way side because of my hatred for the treadmill. I really need to suck it up and just do it though. I have never listened to an audio book while runnin. I do music and sometimes even that's hard for me because when I run my thoughts are all over the place. Seriously my mind is like a child with ADHD or something when I run. Crazy.

  3. I pretty much run exclusively indoors(at the gym) these days. For long runs, it gets pretty boring, but I just try to suck it up. I'd love to run outdoors but I just don't have the right clothing and I don't feel like investing too much in it for the limited use I would get (I really have no motivation to go run through the snow). It always takes some adjustment though to breathing outdoors, so if I have a race coming up I try to at least do a couple runs outside first. This is going to sound so vain, but the treadmills at my gym are right infront of a mirror, and I've found that staring at myself running is pretty entertaining. Between that, my ipod, and a couple different channels on the tv's, I've been able to get through some longer runs. But I also know people who hate treadmills and refuse to run on them. Can you do a trial membership at the Y?

  4. The only time I run in the cold is for a race. I grew up in the PNW and miss it like crazy. Sigh. I'll get home to see family next year.

  5. Considering how lazy I am about exercising I have absolutely no opinion on the matter lol.

  7. Ah, I personally love the treadmill. I'm not much of a runner though--I love power walking with an occasional sprint in between. I bring a book to read, or watch a TV show that I would normally watch anyway while doing nothing. The time flies by!

  8. Kei$ha and her inappropriate lyrics have helped me through many a long training runs!

That's neat that your hubby goes with you on your runs. Mine rode his bike when I did a 20 mile training run for the marathon I ran. (My training partner was out of town that weekend). But he wouldn't run with me (he says I go to slow)

If and when I do get on the treadmill, I'll definitely have to bring along a book :)
