Our history

I've touched on our relationship history here and there, but it's high time for a full-on POST about the relationship that got us all the way from: first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage.  Plus, it's Valentine's Day.

First things first, we originally met in marching band.  That was our first interaction anyways.  We both played in the saxophone section.  Oh yes, you can start calling us music nerds/band geeks/whatever.  We are so that.

Yup.  Me doing the "WOW" face.  I look so cute and dorky, right?
Nick asked me why my saxophone was blue in spots and I said, "Long story short, I spray painted it in high school, hated it, then painted it gold on top and now the paint is starting to chip off".

I really wish I had a picture of that saxophone.  It was awful.  At least I still had my other very nice one!

After that it was the occasional "hi" and head nod in the halls and during band rehearsals.  Oh, and don't forget my awkward "hey, I saw you rock climbing last night while I was working out.  Cool." moment.  It's a good thing he was chill and didn't catch me being a total weirdo.

After that we started talking a little more and our first Facebook convo, oh yes I have that, involved threatening to poison each other so we could win a spot in the wind ensemble.  I don't think either one of us won that spot.  Can't really remember..

I'm posting it small because it is pretty big and silly.  You can easily click the picture itself to read what we said.  You don't have to read it, but it's here for my sake because it's just silly, awkward, and cute.

Continuing on, this leads to us hanging out (and skipping one class for coffee) a little more and chatting quite frequently on Facebook when he was at work (I lived for those Saturday mornings when we could chat online).

Then, one day we went to a local park.  We played on the playground (ah yes, we're still kids), made our own sailboats out of wood and sticks and raced them down the creek, and then played some frisbee.  A very cute "date" if I do say so myself.  On our way back to our cars Nick stopped me and just asked "Hey, would you like to be my girlfriend?"  I should also mention that he didn't have any previous relationships before me, so it makes this whole thing 10 times cuter in my opinion.

I just smiled and said, "sure!"   Then we did an awkward first-time-ever hug and drove off to our own apartments.  I got home and screamed at my roommate who proceeded to ask, "Who?  Really?  I didn't know you liked him.  That's awesome!"  And we both screamed and danced a little in the living room.  True story.

After that we kept hanging out, dating, doing cute couple things until we realized we shouldn't/couldn't be affording all the trips/dates in Seattle, dinners out, etc.  We seriously nailed that whole spend money on each other thing at the beginning.

It should also be mentioned that one of our very first dates involved Nick "testing" me.  He took me out to go stargazing.  But, the catch, was that we had to hike a pretty steep hill, at NIGHT, in order to do it.  Well, I conquered that hill like it was nobody's business.  Now, I think I'd probably whine a lot before we actually did it, but then I was fearless and in desperate need to try and impress him.  It worked.

After a year and a half of dating we got engaged.  We talked about getting married before we got engaged and we actually, surprisingly, talked about a
lot of very serious things like: finances and money, babies, opinions on serious topics/debates, etc.  All the typical pre-marriage things, ya know.

Anyways, we were engaged on August 29, 2010 and we were married on July 3, 2011.

Life has been an adventure ever since, but I wouldn't change it.  I know everyone says that, but it is incredibly true.. minus a few disagreements here and there over silly things.

Here's to continuing on in the adventure by adding a new member!

  2. What a great history! I know what you mean about the Facebook thing--those early, awkward, conversations back when you were 'just friends' are so precious to look back on! I'm excited that my husband and I are finally growing a bit of a history together. We only been together since 2010 so it takes a little while to create all the memories! :)
