Juice, juice, juice!

For the past 5 hours we have been busy bees.  We made a game plan and went to the store.  This is what happened.

This is all the fruits and veggies for one week.  Actually, we are probably going to need more!

We got super excited and decided to juice.  We actually made a LOT of juice for snacking on during work.

Check out our fridge!

Crazy, right?  Yeah.

I'll share the two recipes that we found from the movie Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead and jointhereboot.com.

The first one is an Apple-Beet-Carrot Juice.

In a juicer you need to juice:
  • 1 apple
  • 2 beets
  • 3 large carrots
  • 1 piece ginger (thumb sized)
  • 4 cups spinach/kale
This is enough to fill up one person, but if you water it down a bit it can last quite awhile.  We doubled it and it made quite a bit.

Sidenote:  If you don't have a juicer, you can put all these ingredients in a blender with some extra water to get a similar taste.  Just make sure to use some sort of strainer like a nut milk bag to get the unwanted pulp/junk from the juice.

The other juice is called a Mean Green Juice.

Juice:
  • 1 cucumber
  • 4 celery stalks
  • 2 apples
  • 6-8 leaves of kale
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 1 tbsp. ginger (we did a little small than thumb size)

There you go!  I've heard/read that for this cleanse it's best to eat smaller meals throughout the day.  That's why we're juicing so we can drink it throughout the day.

Also, while creating these juices we did have one fatality.

Yup.  The lemon juicer died.  My husband doesn't know his own strength.

Oh well.  Good night all.  I hope your Monday is better than most!

Don't mind my overly happy smile.  Juicing is quite fun.

Apples and Bananas

Nick and I have decided to do a week-long fruit and vegetable fast/diet.  That's where you eat only fruits and veggies.  No breads, nuts, meat, dairy, cheese, etc.  I'll just admit it, I'm really nervous.  Why?  Well, my motivational skills lack quite a bit and I enjoy eating my crackers and sandwiches. I know I'm just making excuses and my husband has so much faith in me.  He's probably right and I'm just being a girl who's just over-analyzing things. I tend to do this a lot.

I had a minor stress overload, but you know what I realized (with the help of my wonderful hubby)?  I'm doing this for my body and for God.  This is for Lent and I'm giving up my wants for Him.   So, giving up most foods for just a week?  Pssh, I got this.

So now I just need to kick my butt and keep these motivational quotes close by.

Have you ever done anything like this?  If you have any great recipe ideas (or maybe some advice) send them my way.  I could probably use it.

PS.  I may take this week to do a little diary of our adventure.  I'll post recipes (and probably a few rants) for you guys.   Wish us luck!

It's Ok Thursday

I have done it!  I made a Facebook page.  Click here to check it out.  Feel free to pop on over there and "like" it.  I felt bad because I was posting my blog posts on my normal Facebook wall and I didn't want my friends/family to be too bombarded with updates all the time.  Especially if some didn't care too much.

Anyways...

Now I'm going to continue on with a little bit of It's Ok Thursday with A Complete Waste of Makeup and Brunch with AmberTechnically it is still Thursday.  I have 2 hours left!

It's ok...

...that my husband works from 7pm - 7am today AND tomorrow.  And I'm really bummed.

...to start a sentence with and.  Yes, it is (on my blog).

...to want to redecorate my blog because everyone else is.

...to have no idea how I want to redecorate.  Sigh

...to want to go thrift store shopping for the 3rd weekend in a row.

...to put too much creamer in your coffee.  I can't stand the taste of plain coffee.

...that I may be caught up in reading books 2 and 3 of the Hunger Games Trilogy.  If you don't hear from me, that's why.

...to miss my husband terribly at night.

...to finally find a morning workout that might actually work for me!  Thank you Pinterest!

...that I'm an awful morning workout-er.  I'd probably be better with a buddy to do it with.

...to miss living in our previous town with our old friends and family.
...to be slacking a little bit in the time management thing.  I have decided though, that I would reward myself with extra internet time if I worked out and I DID workout today :)

...to have a bazillion blogs to read on my Google Reader.

A Realization

My blog posts have been pretty bland the past few days.  I apologize for that.

I actually had a realization today.  I spend way too much time sitting on my computer.  It's not all mindless/pointless stuff (I could be playing video games instead!), but I do spend a lot of time just reading blogs, pinning on Pinterest, Facebooking, etc.  I have decided to create a time management for my time spent online.

Do you do this?  If so, what do you do?

I'm thinking of limiting myself to 15 minutes of random internet surfing and maybe 20 or 25 minutes of blogging.  I think this will help my blogging because then I'll actually be BLOGGING instead of looking at other peoples' blogs and thinking "Oh, I should do a blog about that!" or "Why can't I blog like so-and-so".  Those thoughts seriously happen.

Anyways, that is what I'm going to attempt to do.  It will be good for me.

I'll be able to spend more time focusing on bettering (is that even a word?) myself.  Such as, reading, spending time with people, crafting, and more importantly, working out!  I'm so bad with coming up with excuses for not working out.

Do you have a time management system?  I'd love to hear about it!

Sidenote: I just started reading The Hunger Games and I can't put it down.  That's also where I've been recently.  IT'S SO GOOD!

The Punch Brothers

I blame my husband for this, but I LOVE the Punch Brothers.  Do you know them?  They are a bluegrass/folk band and they are amazing.  They are musicians who like what they do and do an INCREDIBLY good job at it!

Anyways, we just got their newest album Who's Feeling Young Now.

It is super-crazy-and-wonderfully-fantastic.  I think I have listened to this song about 20 times since we got the CD on Friday.

Isn't it great?

Anyways, I had to share that with you.  I love this band and I hope you will take a moment to check out some of their other albums.  Chris Thile (the mandolin player) is my husband's idol (he also plays mandolin) and has quite a few albums, including 5 solos, 5 collaborations, and some with Nickel Creek (also a great band).

Check them out.  They rock.  We're going to see them in Seattle on March 6th.  I'm super stoked!

Oh, How Pinteresting #3

Do you like The Office?  I love The Office!  My husband and I watch it all the time.  It's definitely one of those shows where you can go back and watch an episode over and over again and still laugh pretty dang hard.

Anyways, I decided that my Oh, How Pinteresting post with Michelle, will be all about The Office :)

My favorite Jim/Dwight scene!

And this is where Michael says...."That's what she said"

"My horn can pierce the sky"  Oh my goodness, haha!

I cried when I watched this episode.  They are so cute!

Why, hello!

Neely over at A Complete Waste of Makeup is doing an awesome linkup right now.   Basically I'm just gonna talk a little about myself and this blog I have!

If you didn't know already my name is Alison.  I have been married to my wonderful husband for 7 months now.   Life is pretty fantastic - most of the time.  Here is a little picture of us.

I caught the garter at my friend's wedding - hence this picture. HA!

I love spending time with my husband outside, whether it's hiking, backpacking, swimming, or just walking around.  I also love creating things and trying to be crafty.

This blog I have going on is just to show some little pieces of our life together.
My main goals for this blog are to share with you some of the crafts I've been working on, ways that we're being frugal, and other little snippets of our life.   I think that lately it's been a lot about linkups and random ramblings.  Oh well!

I do have a few posts that I have written about me and I hope you will learn a few things about me!

Weekend Recap

Life has been a little crazy these past few weeks.  Nick got a job working nights at a berry plant in town.  It's a great job, but I never get to see him!  Currently, I work from about 9-6 and he works from 5 pm - 3 am.  YIKES!  This means that I get to see him when he's sleeping and on the few days he doesn't work.  Ugh.  Anyways, I needed to get that out of me.

Now, onto my weekend!

On Saturday we got to visit a friend of ours in Seattle.  First, let me just say that I wore an outfit that I would've never worn 2 years ago.  Question:  do you ever feel extremely self-conscious when you're wearing something completely new or is it just me?

Check it out:

I love those purple tights!  I found them on clearance at Macy's, SCORE!

We ended up going to this awesome pub in Seattle called The Pub at Third Place.  If you are ever in the northern Seattle area I would HIGHLY recommend going.  Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures, but I got this one from their website here.

The inside is so cozy!  It's all wood.  Check out those tables!!  There is also a bookcase filled with books and a TON of games.  About 3/4 of the people there were playing some sort of game.   It had a coffee shop atmosphere and I love that!  It's not a full bar either, but they have about 18 beers on tap and they have appetizers and some great wines.  Anyways, it was fun!

Sunday:

I helped my dad paint the house a bit in the late morning/early afternoon.  Nick and I then went grocery shopping because he decided to make me a surprise Valentine's Day dinner!  Look at this cutie!

Look at what he did!  I love my husband.  We had a honey-glazed pork with asparagus, baked yams, and some great Rosè wine.

Check out those floating candles.. :)

On top of dinner he made an AWESOME strawberry shortcake.  SO GOOD!

We had a few friends over afterwards and watched a bit of the Grammys.  Pretty fun!
Anyways, that's just a recap of the weekend.  How was your weekend?

FVC Day 9: My Family

I love my family.  All of them.  They are so awesome!

Let me just share some fun pictures of them.  Warning: Beware of a massive photo dump :)

My family (both sides) is known for playing a lot of games.  That's one thing I LOVE about them.  My dad's side is all about card games and my husband's side is all about word games.

At Nick's parent's house, this is our all-time favorite game.  BOGGLE!

My sister and brother.  Both younger.  Both much taller than me.
